A very easy read, somewhat predictable, but thorough The start of a new series by McNab follows the story of a young soldier through his training and then into the thick of things in Afghanistan.
You now have more to fear than just enemy soldiers. Story was quite interesting although I’m not sure why after the 1st incident with the brother in afghanistan occurs the history is not revealed to a superior. As a member of 22 SAS he was at the centre of covert operations for nine years – on five continents.

Trained as a specialist in counter terrorism, prime target elimination, demolitions, weapons refruit tactics, covert surveillance and information gathering in hostile environments, and VIP protection, McNab worked on cooperative operations with police forces, prison services, anti-drug forces and western backed guerrilla movements as well as on conventional special operations. It took you from him going through basic training, infantry training and being stationed in Afghanistan.
You felt like you were there with them training. Full story available in hardback and ebook formats. I was surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did, I’m usually into magic, fantasy and the likes.
Tthe Craig rated it it was amazing Sep 20, The book also seemed to feel short and maybe could have just been fleshed out more. The Author showed a great deal of knowledge and know-how of the British Army. And those who do, will never be the same again.
The first half of the book is mostly about basic training and Liam’s positive and negative camaraderie with his fellow soldiers. I like how there was a glossary at the front so I knew what a lot jcnab the stuff was.
Other books in this series. Who knew a war book could be so good? McNab’s fiction draws extensively on his experiences and knowledge of Special Forces soldiering. I’m not rercuit that a fellow soldier would really look for revenge in this arena, but I suppose it gives an interesting plot twist to this otherwise straightforward and fairly pedestrian war story. Trivia About The New Recruit Louise Jewell rated it it was amazing Oct 10, I saw this book and realised it was from a author I am familiar with so I picked it up and flicked through a couple of pages and thought it was going to be a very interesting book, so I got it out.
